With less than three weeks left till DC's highly anticipated Suicide Squad hits theatres, the marketing has been ramping up, and it's only expected to continue to gather momentum as the release comes closer.
Warner Bros. have released a new trailer for the movie, and unlike the previous ones, this one focuses primarily on Amanda Waller and Rick Flag. You can watch it below:
Pretty cool, right? Let's get to business, and start breaking down the trailer! (because y'know, there are still about 18 days left till the movie comes out).
"I wanna build a team of some bad people who can do some good"
The trailer begins with Amanda Waller pitching the idea of building a team of super-villains, with the purpose of doing some good. Not a great idea.
This dialogue probably takes place during the scene when Waller is at the White House, trying to convince the President to grant her the permission to create Task Force X. Next...
Rick Flag is suspicious of Amanda Waller
And with good reason. Amanda Waller is not the person you'd want to mess with. She is known to be a sly, manipulative person, who will hesitate at nothing to achieve get her job done. Naturally, Rick Flag, an extremely patriotic soldier, suspects that Waller has ulterior motives and expectations from the Task Force.
He doesn't approve of her choice either, as he exclaims:
You need real soldiers, not these scumbags!
Perhaps the mission assigned to the skwad isn't something the government should let super-villains handle, but instead trust them into the hands of their own, trustworthy soldiers.
I've got a bad feeling about this, it's not going to go down well for Amanda Waller, that is for sure.
Amanda Waller shows her dangerous side
Case in point. Here we get our first glimpse of how dangerous Amanda Waller can actually be. She knows everyone's weaknesses and vulnerabilities, and she intends to exploit them to her advantage.
Some of these may include Deadshot's daughter, Enchantress' brother, etc. You get the gist. Amanda Waller is not a woman to be trifled with, even Batman thinks twice before messing with her!
Deadshot and Rick Flag are in complete agreement over Amanda Waller's attitude towards people
We're with you Deadshot, we're with you. It seems as though Rick Flag (unsurprisingly) agrees with him.
This small snippet makes it seem as if Rick Flag and Deadshot finally discover Waller's true motives as to why she formed the Suicide Squad, and what she planned to do with them. Whatever the case may be, it doesn't look good.
Side note: Killer Croc looks terrifying. This is followed by some random shots, which can't really be analysed properly due to their ambiguous nature. However, the trailer finishes off with this interaction between Rick Flag and Waller:
"I am your consequence"
Flagg: They warned me about you... I didn't believe the stories
Waller: Nobody does.
Amanda Waller is absolutely perfect in this scene. This is exactly what the character is supposed to be like in the comics, as well as the DCAU. We truly get to see why she is the head of a secret, military government organisation like A.R.G.U.S., quite similar to how we got more depth to Nick Fury in The Winter Soldier.
Waller totally owns Rick Flagg by saying that he'll have to deal with her, if he (presumably) failed in his mission.
I don't know about you guys, but previously, Amanda Waller and Rick Flagg didn't particularly seem interesting to me. This trailer, however, completely changes that perspective, and I'm actually really intrigued as to what David Ayer does with them.
Suicide Squad hits theatres on August 5, 2016.
