We are getting closer to seeing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story grace the big screen and, with that, connect the lore of Star Wars even more. The success of The Force Awakens has called for even more anthology films, such as the upcoming (and highly praised) Han Solo film. It's such an amazing time to be a Star Wars fan and it seem J.J. Abrams believes we should still get more connecting bridges. This is the man who brought us the masterpiece that is The Force Awakens and just wants to see more of the story unfold. J.J. has a pretty good suggestion as to a story which Star Wars stories he strongly believes should be made.
During an interview with Collider while he was promoting Star Trek — another franchise he has been heavily involved with as of late — Abrams shared some words towards Star Wars and a possible story for the next anthology film:
"I gotta say Kathy Kennedy, who's running it all, she seems to be pushing all the right buttons. There isn't something that I'd love to see — I guess the one thing I would say is there's a Knights of Ren story that I think would be pretty cool to tell."
It seems that just as we all were intrigued with the Knights who made their debut in Force Awakens, so was the director. This movie seems to be a no-brainier as it looks like there might be a lot to cover that Episode VIII might not get to it all. It would really be a treat to get a spin-off for the Knights of Ren. As we saw from The Force Awakens, there is a lot to tell and we could also shed more light on the origin of Kylo Ren.
With the hype Star Wars has been building as of late, it wouldn't seem impossible to see them actually take this idea and run with it. There has been a huge following of Ren's character, so to add more of the backstory to the character would be smart. Whether they go with this idea or not is still up in the air, but you can be assured the success of Rogue One will definitely be a big selling point. The big question is: Would J.J. Abrams come back to direct the movie if it were green-lit?
