Just when we thought we had left the year of heartbreak behind in 2015, it seems that the love gods have frowned upon us once again. Just the other day, news broke that Lady Gaga had split from her husband-to-be, Taylor Kinney.
The pair notably got engaged on Valentine's Day in February 2015 but, after a solid five years, they have clearly decided to put everything on hold. They originally met on the set of her music video for "Yoü And I" back in 2011 and, as of yet, it's unclear who actually pulled the plug.
Over the last couple of days, fans have unleashed a flood of support for their heartbroken Mother Monster, who took to Instagram to share the following emotional message on Tuesday:
Yet, it seems that not all is lost with these two, shown walking arm-in-arm together in the above photo. Unlike many couples who often break-up in a full-on shit-show of rage, it seems Gaga and Taylor are choosing to remain very level-headed. In the post, the little lady spoke of the reasons behind their separation, implying that it was merely a break:
"Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break. We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on. We're just like everybody else and we really love each other."
She then added:
"Please root us on. We're just like everybody else and we really love each other."
Judging by the statement, it certainly seems that this isn't the end for this particular relationship. And if it is, let's hope they can learn something from the following couples, who have remained amicable toward each other despite their painful separations:
1. Gwyneth Paltrow & Chris Martin
When green-smoothie enthusiast Gwyneth referred to her separation from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin as "conscious uncoupling," we could hardly believe such bullshit to be true. Yet, a joint statement on Goop.com reiterated that they will "always will be a family" and we were forced to slowly come around to the idea.
Years on, and despite both moving on in various relationships, they are often spotted hanging out with their two kids and spending the holidays together. Referring to their post-separation relationship, Chris has even revealed:
“You know, there's a lot of love. There's no scandal, I'm afraid.”
Good for you, guys!
2. Courteney Cox & David Arquette
Courtney Cox and David Arquette waved their love goodbye back in November 2010 after a whopping 11 years of marriage. Since, both have been dating other people despite remaining very committed to being loving co-parents to their daughter, Coco. As for the secret behind all the good vibes, David has actually said:
"We just really dealt with [divorce] in a very sweet and honorable way."
3. Elizabeth Hurley & Hugh Grant
While these two split up centuries ago, Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant are still great pals. In fact, he's even the godfather to her son, Damian. Speaking on a talk-show earlier this year, Liz revealed just how much the British actor still means to her, saying:
"He's still my best friend and he's very important to me."
4. Bruce Willis & Demi Moore
Demi's relationship with Ashton Kutcher (who is now with Mila Kunis) might still be a bit rocky following their hostile breakup in 2011, but with former ex-husband Bruce Willis it's all sunshine and roses.
So much so, that after being together for 13 years and having three daughters together, they even attended each other's second wedding ceremonies.
5. Kris & Caitlyn Jenner
Over the last few years, reality TV couple Kris and Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce) have gone through a lot. One particular setback was the emotional roller-coaster of their breakup.
Since though, adoring fans have been able to keep up to date on how their relationship is going weekly on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and by the looks of things they're totally cool with remaining firmly in each other's lives.
