After watching Captain America: Civil War, we've all come to the conclusion that Bucky and T'Challa are definitely not floating in the same boat. Based off the false accusation of Bucky killing his father, throughout Captain America: Civil War, audiences experience the fury and rage of revenge when it comes to a death in the family, especially at the hands of an ex-HYDRA assassin.
Bucky Barnes, The Winter Soldier
Since starring in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Sebastian Stan has taken the role of Cap's partner in crime and best friend, James Buchannon Barnes, better known as Bucky. But after the discovery of Bucky's not-really-dead-death (as the MCU tends to have plenty of those), Bucky has become one of Hydra's best weapons of destruction: The Winter Soldier.
Though we can all have a certain amount of hate for a ruthless assassin, I believe there is an aspect of sympathy for Bucky's case. You know, since he was brainwashed and barely remembers a thing...except for longing, rusted, seventeen, daybreak, furnace, nine, benign, homecoming, one, freight car and, soldier? But anyways, besides that, we can all feel bad for the poor, poor Bucky Barnes.
To Be Or Not To Be?
So now you're probably wondering, how did this happened? How did Marvel even let him say anything like this? Well of course, Stan only gave us a very vague hint at the concept.
When he was present at the panel at Wizard World Philadelphia, he was asked where he would like to see Bucky next, Stan indirectly unveiled that there is a strong chance (after Captain America: Civil War) that Black Panther would be the next best place to see the wounded warrior. He claimed:
"I don't know, man. I mean, there's obviously a very clear answer, but I'm not maybe say it, now (sic). Where did he end up at the end of the movie? That's the movie he should be in. I feel like that would be the natural...But I don't know."
To those who have seen Captain America: Civil War, you will all understand that there is a very big possibility that Bucky will appear in Black Panther. As we know, Bucky is put under stasis when brought to Wakanda since his assassin state was triggered once more by Zemo using the trigger words. At the end of the film, T'Challa promises Cap that they are going to find a way to erase the lingering HYDRA brainwashing in his system. This is definitely an interesting outcome seeing that T'Challa basically wanted Bucky's head. But is it possible?
A Nine Picture Contract
Yes, you read that correctly. Sebastian Stan is known to have a nine picture contract with Marvel, which means he'll be in a lot of other Marvel movies. But the appearance of The Winter Soldier after Captain America: Civil War hasn't exactly been revealed by Marvel. Then again they're always so secretive its hard to get anything out of them.
So Stan's been in three of his nine movie contract deal, which leaves six films left to do. Marvel clearly has a big chance at bringing him back in Phase Three or Phase Four of the MCU.
But Black Panther hasn't even began its shooting yet (though we did get a new logo and character reveal at SDCC), so it may be awhile until we get a valid confirmation that Stan is going to be present in the film.
Then again, it is really possible if you think about it. Let's say that Bucky is present in Black Panther. He's a definitive plus to the cast since it could lead on to the possibility that if T'Challa needs a super soldier's help during the film, there could be an emergency awakening for our Bucky Barnes. This can also lead onto the two heroes staring in Avengers: Infinity War, which only makes the possibility of Bucky being in the Black Panther film only greater.
Cast So Far
Chadwick Boseman will undeniably reprise his role as T'Challa, and the only other actors that have been announced are Lupita Nyong'o and Michael B. Jordan as the villain Killmonger. Andy Serkis (Ulysses Klaue) and Martin Freeman (Everett Ross) have been rumored to appear.
But besides that, we may have a special guest appearance of the Winter Soldier, we'll never know until the film comes out!
