Black Panther has been a superhero that many fans have been clamoring for, for years. After the film passing through several studios and being in various stages of development since the 90s, T'Challa and his world are finally coming to the big screen as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the character was prominently featured in Captain America: Civil War, this is Black Panther's first solo film.

Marvel's Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler, has been relatively quiet when it comes to news. That, however, changed with the arrival of San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel Studios held their panel today (July 23 for all of you future visitors) and a slew of reveals came for Black Panther's first solo adventure and they are quite exciting. Let's begin with the new logo:

The other important piece of news is that we finally know the characters that Michael B Jordan, Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong'o are playing.

Michael B. Jordan is playing Erik Killmonger

One of Black Panther's deadliest foes, Killmonger (originally named N'Jadaka), harvests a deep hatred for T'Challa, the man who exiled him and his father from Wakanda. In the comics, the villain goes as far as to stage a coup d'etat, citing Black Panther's long absences to be with The Avengers.

Erik possesses many great abilities, which include superhuman strength, reflexes, super hearing, super vision, a literal super palate and peak human speed. I don't know about you, but that's a formidable enemy right there.

Danai Gurira, (The Walking Dead) Is Playing Okoye.

For the 99% of you who just went "... who?" Okoye is one of the Dora Milaje, a group of women that act as wives-in-training for the king of Wakanda, as well as his bodyguards. Okoye is a loyal follower of T'Challa and accompanied him in different adventures. Those include a time when she helped T'Challa track an urban vigilante using the sacred mantle of the Black Panther and acted as a spy for him.

Lupita Nyong'o (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) Is Playing Nakia.

To the (probably) same percentage of people that scratched their heads when they read Okoye and do the same for this entry, Nakia is a member of the Dora Milaje. She is madly in love with T'Challa and doesn't understand that he doesn't harvest any romantic feelings towards the members of his Dora Milage.

As her obsession with T'Challa increased after two frankly strange situations that I will not get into, Nakia decided to kill Black Panther's ex-girlfriend, Monica Lynne, by throwing her off a plane. After lying to T'Challa about Monica's fate, Kania was exiled. After this, she was tortured by a man named Achebe and left to die.

However, this wasn't the end for her. Killmonger, (played by Michael B. Jordan), restores her health through... well, comic book magic and gives her enhanced strength and reflexes and Nakia adopts the name of Malice.

Well, you are now all caught up with Black Panther's Comic-Con reveals. While these announcements may not seem like a lot to some of you, let's remember that finally knowing who these actors are playing gives us a very good indication of where the story might go. Could Killmonger and Nakia join forces against the young king of Wakanda? Or will that story be saved for a sequel?

However, if these news aren't enough for you, you can check out Chadwick Boseman(Black Panther himself)'s interview with

Marvel's Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa/Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan, Lupta Nyong'o and Danai Gurira and is scheduled to hit theaters on July 6, 2018. What do you think?
