During its SDCC panel yesterday, Legends of Tomorrow may have made the most exciting announce of all the CW DC shows. The cast and crew present confirmed the Justice Society roster, composed of Hourman, Star Girl, Obsidian, Dr. Mid-Nite, Commander Steel and Vixen. But also, Malcolm Merlyn, Captain Cold, Damien Darhk and the Reverse-Flash have all been confirmed as the big bads of season two, known as the Legion Of Doom.

The Legion Of Doom Is An Unprecedented Pairing Of Characters

When The CW confirmed that Captain Cold and Malcolm Merlyn would become regular across all DC shows, people quickly wondered how their characters would factor into Arrow, The Flash and Legends Of Tomorrow. However, nobody ever thought they would join this team of supervillains, with the additions of Darhk and Thawne.

Here's what Legends EP Marc Guggenheim had to say about the introduction of this Legion Of Doom:

“For season two of Legends, we decided that the perfect antagonist for TV’s first-ever team of Super Heroes would be TV’s first-ever team of Super-Villains, recruited from the ranks of Arrow and The Flash’s deadliest adversaries. Being huge fans of the Challenge of the Superfriends, we’ve come to call this group our ‘Legion of Doom.’”

In many ways, the announcement of & team of Super-Villains is one the biggest things to happen in the history of the Arrowverse. The villains are often the most fascinating and compelling characters on a show but having four of them, interpreted by the greatest actors we have seen on screen, is something rare.

What is even more appealing about those characters is that almost each of them has ties to at least one member of the Waverider. Captain Cold was himself an integral part of the crew, where he became friends with everyone and died saving his team and time itself. Moreover, the fact that he probably won't remember everything that happened will make their reunion even more heartbreaking and complicate this relationship between heroes and villains.

The same can be said about Damien Darhk and Malcolm Merlyn, who both have a complicated relationship with Sara. She is the member who's going to be the most affected by the formation of this team of Super-Villains because Merlyn killed her, Darhk killed her sister, and she was in an almost romantic relationship with Snart. So, it will be intriguing to see how she will react seeing those three getting in cahoots with each other.

In Eobard Thawne's case, things are a little different. Only Stein interacted with him when he was impersonating Harrison Wells, though, his character is probably a past version of the man we have seen during the first season of The Flash. He will probably act as the real mastermind behind the Legion Of Doom, being the only person aware of the rules of time-travel and able to travel through it at will.

Details are still kept under wrap, but the formation of the Legion Of Doom promises to be the most exciting and interesting pairing in the history of the Arrowverse.

Legends of Tomorrow returns October 13th on The CW.
