When it was announced back in 2012 that Disney had bought Lucasfilm, the movie giants promised a brand new Star Wars trilogy based after the events of Return Of The Jedi. Along with the new trilogy, Disney later announced that it is planning three spin-off prequels based in the Star Wars universe. These spin-offs would be placed under an anthology banner in Disney's Star Wars line up, with Rogue One being the first of the planned spin-offs.
Disney later confirmed that the second spin-off, slated for release in 2018, would be based around Han Solo. This was met with skepticism as many believed that there are other characters in the Star Wars universe that need their own movie before Han - namely Boba Fett and Obi Wan Kenobi - as Han has starred in four of the seven Star Wars movies. But if you are one of those skeptical fans then be prepared to see more of Han Solo, as Alden Ehrenreich, our future Han Solo, is slated to star in a trilogy revolving around the smuggler.
A new report from the New York Daily News suggests that Ehrenreich is set to star as Han Solo in two more films after his 2018 solo adventure. The report says
“There is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential. Given that Han’s early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters.”
It's worth noting, however, that while the article does state that Ehrenreich is signed on for two more films, it is not clear whether on not they are all Han Solo films, or simply part of future spin-off films. So, it is a possibility that Ehrenreich is signed on for the rumored Boba Fett spin-off that is due for release 2020. Ehrenreich could also appear as Solo in Rogue One in a possible cameo appearance.
This report does give credibility to the rumor that surfaced earlier this year that claimed that Disney are planning spin-offs based on Boba Fett and Obi Wan Kenobi based within the Outer Rim (with even more evidence in the form of the story coming in the form of DLC for the Star Wars: Battlefront game). The three spin-offs would all be based within the Outer Rim sector so it would make sense for Ehrenreich to appear as Solo in each of the films, even if it is in the form of a cameo. This does make the possibility for a Boba Fett and Obi Wan spin-off all the more likely.
Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, the Han Solo spin-off hits theaters on May 25, 2018.
