Five years ago today, Harry Potter finally managed to vanquish his lifelong nemesis, Lord Voldemort. That's right, it's been half a decade since the release of the franchise's final movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
As a tribute to the final piece, let's go way back and take a quick look at the kids who made it all happen and the ones who ended it — no, we're not talking about Daniel Radcliffe and his squad. Here are all the kids who played young versions of the James and Lily generation, as well as those who were cast as the children of the Harry gang, 19 years later.
1. Benedict Clarke As Young Severus Snape
Other Appearances: Andys (2014), In the Wake of Sirens (2012), Awkward Facades (2011)
"Snape and Lily, it should've happened!"
2. Ellie Darcey-Alden As Young Lily Evans (a.k.a. Lily Potter)
Other Appearances: Sam & Isobel (2013), Borgia (2013), Welcome to the Punch (2013), Doctor Who (2012)
[In 2011, on what it was like after Harry Potter] "I'm not famous; people don't recognize me. I'm just a normal crazy 12-year-old who was very lucky to be in such a huge film."
3. Alfie McIlwain As Young James Potter
Other Appearances: N/A
Alfie McIlwain is 18 years old and has five siblings. He has not pursued his career in acting since he was cast as the eleven-year-old James Potter in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. McIlwain has avoided any social media presence and has kept out of the public eye.
4. Ariella Paradise As Young Petunia Dursley
Other Appearances: N/A
[As Petunia] "Freak! I'm telling Mummy! You're a freak! You're a freak, Lily!"
5. Rohan Gotobed As Young Sirius Black
Other Appearances: Break the Walls (2016), Hoff the Record (2015), Doctors (2015), Beneath the Skin (2015), Any Minute Now (2013)
6. Arthur Bowen As Albus Severus Potter
Other appearances: N/A, but he did also play an uncredited boy at the Chestnut Stand in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
"I'm not a Harry Potter fan because in the first film — I watched it when I was young — Voldemort scared me so much! I couldn't watch it all."
7. Will Dunn As James Sirius Potter (Harry And Ginny's Son)
Other appearances: My Song (2011)
8. Daphne de Beistegui As Lily Luna Potter (Harry And Ginny's Daughter)
Other appearances: N/A
Daniel Radcliffe: "And then there’s Daphnie [de Beistegui] who plays Lily. She was amazing. She’s just like this little, incredible creature. She kind of basically adopted me as her father for the days that we were filming. So she would sort of be hanging onto me as we were walking around the set, which was great. And she’s really, really sweet."
9. Ryan Turner As Hugo Weasley
Other appearances: The Hooligan Factory (2014), My Imaginary Life (2014), Puzzled (2013), Love Me Still (2008)
"It was fantastic being Ron and Hermione's son, as we've always joked and we've always said I could play that part."
10. Helena Barlow As Rose Granger Weasley
Other appearances: Harriet and the Matches (2013), Great Expectations (2012), Horrid Henry: The Movie (2011)
"In — I think it was 2007 — I wrote a letter, basically begging to be in Harry Potter. [laugh] And then I think it was like a year later, I got a phone call saying 'Would you like to come to an audition?' So yeah, I went along."
11. Bertie Gilbert As Scorpius Malfoy
Other appearances: Friend Like Me (2016), Oscar's Hotel for Fantastical Creatures (2015), Blue Sushi (2015), Kintsugi (2015), Stray Dog (2013)
Luckily, we've had distractions to hold us off post-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows with the release of a sequel in the form of a play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, as well as the upcoming movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. While these make great excuses to live in denial, we must come to terms with the fact that the original series of novels and their subsequent film adaptations are Avada Kadavra forever. Just Kidding. Long live nostalgia!
