Spider-Man: Homecoming has become one of the most anticipated superhero films of the last few years. What sets this iteration apart in the never-ending franchise of our favorite wall-crawler? It's Spider-Man's first solo film as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So far, it has confirmed appearances from Iron Man and the Vulture, as well as rumored ones by Captain America and now, apparently, Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow.
According to Comicbook.com, last week they were informed of Scarlett Johansson's presence in Atlanta, where Spider-Man: Homecoming is currently filming. However, they were unable to get confirmation of these reports. But don't lose hope yet. The Atlanta Filming Twitter account also left this cryptic message:
In case you are not familiar with this Twitter page, they provide regular updates of productions in Atlanta and currently, their main focus has been Spider-Man: Homecoming. It's worth noting that this is not an official account and not run by a professional, just a fan. Still, it's reasonable to assume the account was hinting at Scarlett's rumored presence in Atlanta.
Something else to consider to determine whether or not this is true is how much Sony is investing in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson are two of the highest paid actors in the world. Will Spidey be able to make that money back or will he add this debt to his long list of problems?
What I'm wondering is, if Scarlett is indeed in the film, how important will her role be? Will she be a main player in the plot or just a cameo to get us hyped for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Fans have been clamoring for a Black Widow solo film for years, and it seems like may just be getting one. That, or a team-up film with her and Winter Soldier.
While Black Widow's rumored appearance could make fans' dreams for her own solo film in the near future seem far away, it's nice to know we'll get to see more of the character in other movies.
