Warning: This article contains spoilers from Season 1 of Preacher. If you haven't caught up then I command you, in my best Genesis voice, to stop reading now.
After an explosive first season, Preacher will be heading towards God in next year's second season. With so much left to discuss following that incredible finale, lets examine what we would most like to see in the second season.
1. Cassidy's Backstory
Cassidy became the heart and soul of Preacher so I was rather surprised that we didn't get to see his backstory explored. Moreover, how did he become a vampire? Why is he so empathetic towards humans? Now that Tulip, Jesse and Cassidy have all set off on a road trip to find God, I'm sure there'll be plenty of opportunity for the gang to truly get to know each other and for Cassidy's backstory to finally be revealed.
Little is known about the vampires of the Preacher world, so the second season would be the perfect opportunity to dig further into the mythology.
2. Jesse And Tulip
That finale definitely made me a Tulip/Jesse shipper. This pairing have proven time and again that they are better together than they are apart. Furthermore, we also found out that Tulip lost a baby — we assume Jesse was the father — so they were obviously close enough at one stage to settle down together.
The kiss and the road trip at the end of the finale more than likely means that the pair are officially back together, however with Cassidy riding long as the third wheel (and his unrequited love of Tulip coming to the surface), things are bound to become a little awkward.
3. Eugene Rescued
Eugene may not be a saint, but he definitely doesn't deserve to burn in Hell for all of eternity. Moreover, even if he did — it's not up to Jesse to decide such a fate. We know that Hell in the Preacher world appears to be reliving your worst moment over and over again, so I think it's safe to assume Eugene's hell will be reliving the moment that he shot Tracy Loach and himself — creating Arseface.
The road trip will certainly be interesting for Tulip, Jesse and Cassidy but we're hoping that they'll be able to bring Eugene back. Jesse is filled will remorse for his actions and now that he's returning to his former friendly self, hopefully he'll get the help he needs.
4. Jesse Vs. The Cowboy
After the shocking realization that the "flashbacks" about the Cowboy weren't actually flashbacks — rather Hell itself — I've all been wondering what purpose those scenes served. DeBlanc and Fiore cut a deal with the Cowboy and now the Cowboy is hunting Jesse — or more importantly he's hunting Genesis — so it's inevitable that the two will face off.
The Cowboy has basically been the main character of his own separate show so it'll definitely be an interesting dynamic once he comes face to face with Jesse Custer. I can only imagine the awesomeness of such a scene.
Jesse spent the entire season trying to work out what God's plan is for him only to find out that God is missing. With the help of Cassidy and Tulip, the threesome embarked on a road trip to find the holy leader, but where will their quest take them?
Executive producer Seth Rogen confirmed on Talking Preacher that Preacher is mainly about three people looking for God, so now the story of Preacher can really begin. Will they find God? If so, we can't wait to see what he looks like.
If the second season is anything like the first then we are in for one holy treat. The only sad part is having to wait a year to find out. Preacher finishes on top and we can't wait to see what comes next!
