After TMZ recently leaked photos from the set of the upcoming sixth installment of American Horror Story — confirming at least one of the settings to likely be The Lost Colony of Roanoke — it was only a matter of time before further secrets began to slip away from the closely guarded set under the direction of Ryan Murphy. And as is the norm these days, we have all the wonderful platforms of social media to thank for this latest batch of spoilers, getting us more excited for the hotly anticipated September premiere.
A photo posted to Instagram from actress Romika Annabel Osorio may have revealed a heretofore unannounced return of Kathy Bates to the series. What's more she might also have given away an entirely new addition to the cast in the form of Radio and As Good As It Gets star, Cuba Gooding Jr.
The Oscar-winning actor was last seen in Ryan Murphy's other FX anthology series, American Crime Story. His portrayal of O.J. Simpson during his infamous murder trial and acquittal earned the actor an Emmy nomination. With confirmation from Murphy that the new season will have dual storylines set in both the present and the past (likely in Roanoke), there's every manner of ways Gooding Jr. could be utilized.
Osorio's post also seemingly confirms the return of AHS veteran, Kathy Bates, whose reprisal was left in question following the recent announcement she had taken the lead role in a new Netflix series created by Chuck Lorre.
There's no official confirmation around either of these casting rumors, and Osorio has since changed the hashtags in her post. It does seem like a good sign, however, to those of us who feared Bates would be going the route of former co-star, Jessica Lange, who left the show after its fourth season.
With just over a month to go until the sixth season brings us further thrills and chills, we're sure to see an official promo soon that will finally clear some of this up. And a few cast members are confirmed and expected in the new season including Lady Gaga, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, and a few other veterans of the long-running and endeared anthology series. Hopefully, with this new information having slipped out, the bosses behind the show will let up their secrecy and reveal anything more about the structure and setting of the series.
American Horror Story Season 6 premieres Wednesday, September 14 only on FX.
