Michael Bay is putting the pedal to the metal on his fifth and final installment of the Transformers franchise.

With less than a year until its 2017 release date, the director recently shared that a fan-favorite Autobots will finally be joining the fighting alongside Bumblebee and Optimus Prime in Transformers: The Last Knight.

Generally, Bay has stuck with releasing images of the Autobots in their car forms first, but this time around we get to see a new character in his fully transformed state. Without further ado, let's welcome the loveably self-confident Hot Rod to the live-action Hasbro Cinematic Universe:

Hot Rod first joined the Autobots in the 1986 Transformers animated movie and was voiced by Judd Nelson. In the animated series, Hot Rod is ultimately dubbed Rodimus Prime by the Matrix of Leadership following Optimus Prime's death — a traumatic experience for Transformers fans. Does this mean we'll see the true demise of Optimus Prime before Bay's run as director is through? Possibly.

Actors confirmed to reprise their Transformers roles include Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager, Josh Duhamel as Lt. Colonel William Lennox and Tyrese Gibson as Robert Epps. Newcomers include Laura Haddock and Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins in unspecified roles.
