Even if you didn't have an '80s childhood, it's hard to not to be inspired by the new Netflix series, Stranger Things. There were plenty of '80s inspirations peppered across the series, but I'm interested to see how this will influence present-day artists in the genre. Synthwave is back! (actually it's been back), but I'm willing to bet we will start seeing an influx of even more retro '80s acts and throwback films in the months to come.
In my case, I was born in 1977. My youth was filled with everything '80s, from film and music, to just being a kid on my bike exploring the world around me. Duffer Brothers hit it right on the head with this series, and I can't thank them enough for it. In the spirit of "throwing it back" I thought it would be fun to mash up some of my favorite throwbacks. I had discovered this Carpenter Brut remix of GUNSHIP's "Tech Noir" right as I was finishing up Stranger Things, and thought to myself "These two need to meet and have an '80s baby together." So that's just what I did.
If this video doesn't give you goosebumps at the end, you are officially dead inside!
Being a visual person, I was super impressed with the camera work and editing of this series, but they say that 50 percent of a film is the music, and I would tend to agree.
S U R V I V E did an equally amazing job with the soundtrack and I can't wait to hear more from them as well.
