Swedish born actress Alicia Vikander won over critics in The Danish Girl after years of bit parts, until finally becoming more popular with roles like her one in Ex Machina. Her role in The Danish Girl as Gerda Wegener opposite Eddie Redmayne secured her a well deserved Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Since then, she has been en route to set Hollywood ablaze. Named the face of Louis Vuitton for SS16, and with several stellar films on the horizon, Vikander is one to watch out for.

- Release date: 2017
- Director: Wim Wenders
- Cast: James McAvoy, Charlotte Rampling
In another novel adaptation, Alicia stars opposite James McAvoy in this romantic thriller. It's currently in post production and set to be released in 2017. The film sees a couple separated by two very different environments. McAvoy plays James More who is being held captive by jihadists, while Vikander takes the role of Danielle Flinders, who is preparing to deep sea dive to hidden levels of the ocean floor for research purposes. Both confined in different ways, the two protagonists reminisce about the previous Christmas and their chance meeting.
Both McAvoy and Vikander are known for their fully "submersed" acting styles, so no doubt this shall be an engrossing, high impact film.
- Release date: 2017
- Director: Lisa Langseth
- Cast: Eva Green, Charles Dance
Alicia stars opposite the vampy Eva Green and the iconic Charlotte Rampling, but it's not just acting that Vikander is doing in this movie; Alicia has branched out into producing and has launched her own company called Vikarious Productions. She has brought in director Lisa Langseth for her English language directing debut too. Langseth and Vikander have worked before on two Swedish film productions: Till det som är vackert (English title: Pure) and Hotell, so we shall have to wait and see what the two create together for this movie.
The film sees two conflicting sisters on a journey across Europe toward an unknown destination. Definitely a profound and weighty watch, Vikander has also placed great importance on the characters and strength of women within the film.
3. Tulip Fever
- Release date: 25 August, 2017
- Director: Justin Chadwick
- Cast: Cara Delevingne, Dane DeHaan
Tulip Fever ticks all the boxes: a period drama, a forbidden love story, betrayal and revenge. The casting alone makes the film's reception highly promising. Here we see Vikander play a young, beautiful bride opposite a worldly but much older Christopher Waltz. Vikander is seduced by a handsome artist played by Dane Dehaan, who makes her his muse. The film, set in 17th century Amsterdam, creates the perfect backdrop for a bodice-ripping, nun-defying drama. Vikander's role is as very much the wilting tulip as she tries to find a way to be with the man she truly loves.
4. Tomb Raider
- Release date: 16 March, 2018
- Director: Roar Uthaug
- Cast: Walton Goggins, Hannah John-Kamen
Vikander got the part so many actresses were after. Following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie, we see Alicia take on the role of sexy, badass explorer Lara Croft in the 2018 version of Tomb Raider. Although we have very little information on the adaptation of the famous video game, we know that MGM and Warner Bros. are co-producing the film. We can only hope Vikander brings something new to the role, as Jolie's shoes are some difficult ones to fill.
Alicia is a trained ballerina after studying in Sweden, something that may well prove useful for the physically demanding role of Lara Croft.
It seems the next couple of years are going to be Alicia's! Watch this space.
