After defeating Vandal Savage at the end of Season 1, and wrestling their autonomy back from the Time Masters, the Legends of Tomorrow are finally ready to do whatever they want with their lives in Season 2 — but it looks like they won't have long before they're laid low by yet more villainous schemes.

At SDCC, the Legends of Tomorrow showrunners revealed that the Legion of Doom will plague our band of heroes in Season 2. We caught a glimpse at one of these rogues — none other than Damien Darhk himself — in the trailer for the upcoming season, and it looks like Sara's embarked on her own personal vengeance mission.

Now, a synopsis has been released, detailing the major plot points of the upcoming season.

Scattered To The Winds (Of Time)

The synopsis contained a surprising revelation: The season will not follow the Legends from the get-go, as the heroes seem to have been separated and lost in time. It's up to an intrepid historian to reunite them, before they team up with the Justice Society and gain a new recruit.

Dr. Nate Heywood (Nick Zano), an unconventional and charming historian, is thrust into the action upon making a shocking discovery – the Legends are scattered throughout time. Nate must find a way to rescue season one’s beloved team of heroes and rogues... When the Legends encounter the Justice Society of America, in the 1940s, Amaya Jiwe (Maisie Richardson-Sellers), aka Vixen, joins the team. While the team reunites, a mystery looms – the fate of former captain Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill).

So it seems that Rip is still missing for much of the season, which will make for a compelling narrative thread.

The rest of the synopsis details the Legends' new mission, and yet another hero they will find along the way.

Once reunited, the Legends continue their new mission to protect the timeline from temporal aberrations – unusual changes to history that spawn potentially catastrophic consequences. When Nate, the grandson of J.S.A. member Commander Steel, unexpectedly finds himself with powers, he must overcome his own insecurities and find the hero within himself. Ultimately, the Legends will clash with foes both past and present, to save the world from a mysterious new threat.

Does this "new threat" refer to the Legion of Doom? Or is there another ominous danger lurking in the shadows?

Either way, this all makes for an interesting set-up for Legends of Tomorrow Season 2. Dividing the team will challenge them, and having them scattered through time will certainly prove enjoyable to watch, as the viewers are taken on a trip throughout the ages.

This could also make for stumbling blocks later on in the show, as the characters will have experienced a lapse in their own time continuity. We already saw this have an impact in Season 1 — Sara, Ray, and Kendra all lived two extra years in the 1950s, and there's no way of knowing how much time Mick spent as the time assassin Chronos.

And then of course we're left wondering how Leonard Snart plays into all of this — he's confirmed to be among the Legion of Doom as Captain Cold, but is this version of Snart pre or post-Flashpoint?

So many questions, so many months left to go until they're answered. Even with all the information revealed by the synopsis there's still a lot we don't know. But the basic plot structure seems very interesting, and will make for plenty of exciting adventures in Season 2.
