There's few stars in the world as big as Matt Damon is right now. From his career making turn in Good Will Hunting back in the mid '90s, to his Oscar-nominated role in Ridley Scott's The Martian, he's cemented his role as one of the true golden boys of Hollywood cinema.

And of course let's not forget his greatest "performance" to date.

Matt Damon isn't just one of the world's most recognizable faces right now, he's also one of the most profitable actors currently working in Hollywood — the seventh top grossing movie star of all time.

So what's next for the Oscar-winning actor? Here's Matt Damon's next five upcoming projects as both actor and producer.

1. Suburbicon

  • Release date: 3 November 2017
  • Director: George Clooney
  • Cast: Matt Damon, Oscar Isaac, Julianne Moore

A George Clooney directed black comedy written by Ethan and Joel Coen, where do we sign up? That's what we've got in Suburbicon, set to be released next year.

Set in the 1950s, Suburbicon centers around a suburban family who is forced to turn to blackmail and betrayal to take revenge after they undergo a home invasion. We don't know a whole lot else about the story right now, but given that it's written by the Coen brothers, you can bet there are going to be plenty of outlandish characters and comical violence.

2. Downsizing

  • Release date: 22 December 2017
  • Director: Alexander Payne
  • Cast: Matt Damon, Laura Dern, Kristen Wiig

A crazy concept with a big name cast, comedy/drama Downsizing is certainly a risky venture in terms of just how strange the story is. Here's what we know so far.

Matt Damon is one half of a married couple whose lives begin to spin out of control. Instead of going to couple's therapy, getting a divorce, buying a sports car or whatever else mid-life-crisis brings you, they decide instead to have their bodies shrunk so they can join a community of tiny people.

However, his wife backs out at the last moment, so it's down to Damon's character — currently known only as a man from Omaha — to go and find a place for his tiny self in one of these new communities. Basically it's Honey, I Shrunk Matt Damon!

3. The Great Wall

  • Release date: 17 February 2017
  • Director: Yimou Zhang
  • Cast: Matt Damon, Tian Jing, Willem Dafoe

The Great Wall is a pretty interesting and unique project. A joint American-Chinese English language venture pushed forward on the fact that Matt Damon is a really big name in China right now following The Martian. It will be the first big budget Chinese historical blockbuster made entirely in China, with a Chinese director, and a Chinese-owned Hollywood studio.

Set in medieval China during the Northern Song Dynasty of 960–1279, The Great Wall explores mysteries around the world famous Great Wall of China. What mysteries, you ask? Epic sci-fi fantasy monster mythologies, of course.

The question is asked — it took 1,700 years to build the Great Wall, but what were they trying to keep out? If you answered Genghis Khan, you'd be wrong, as it turns out that the answer to that question is: Big ass monsters.

4. Witness for the Prosecution

  • Release date: 2019
  • Director: Matt Damon, Ben Affleck
  • Cast: Ben Affleck

A lawyer defends a man involved in the most dramatic trial he's ever had.

5. Thirst (TV Movie)

  • Release date: TBA
  • Director: Elliott Lester
  • Cast: TBA

Matt Damon teams up with Ben Affleck to produce a drama about the global water crisis.
