When Entertainment Weekly first broke the news of a Xena Warrior Princess reboot, fans were excited. A spin-off from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena Warrior Princess gave television viewers something to get excited about and made Lucy Lawless a star. Those of us who watched the show during its original run from 1995 to 2001 could not imagine anyone else playing Xena. When news began to swirl that Lucy Lawless would not be portraying the title character, the flood gates of discontent opened.
For six years, Lucy Lawless played the part of the warrior princess to perfection. She took down warlords, battled monsters, protected innocent people, and left a trail of bodies in her wake. Viewers could not imagine any one else in this role. Lawless owned it. So we want her back in the boots, and thought that might happen.
Lucy Lawless Expressed Interest In Resuming Her Iconic Xena Role
At the 2015 San Diego Comic Con, Lucy Lawless answered questions about the reboot, indicating her interest in returning for a movie.
“I’ve been pitching that, actually. The fans really do want that, and I’ve met some people who’ve crowdfunded some things, and I’m just like, ‘Why don’t we just do that?’”
“It’s still about who owns the rights to Xena. But it would still be cool to do it again with Renée [O’Connor], me, Ted [Raimi], and Bruce. It’d be a fun little gig, but what that is I don’t really know.”

Lucy Lawless Admitted Doubts About Her Ability To Be Xena
When asked again about the Xena reboot in July 2015, Lawless added:
"I actually couldn’t do it. I'm 47, but there's somebody great out there," she said.
It's understandable as we age we question our bodies' abilities to do the things we used to do, but there are many actress over the age of 40 still taking on killer action roles. Here are just four of them:
Milla Jovovich (41) Will return to Resident Evil The Final Chapter in 2017.
Linda Hamilton (59) Of Terminator fame, has been all about action television and film roles. She will turn 60 on September 25th. She took on the role of Mary Bartowski, a rogue government agent, in Chuck when she was in her early fifties.
Kelly Hu (48) Was 44 when she took on the role of China White in Arrow.
Cynthia Rothrock, (58) Is still cranking out the action movies, and was almost 40 when she played the Enforcer on an episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
So there's no doubt Lucy could slip back into the role that made her famous if that was what she wanted to do. After all, age is just a number.
Lucy Lawless Is Already Proving Her Age Isn't A Factor With Her Latest Role
Devoted fans of sites like Xenaville and XenaCentral remain firm in their love of the original couple and believe in Lucy's ability to be Xena. In spite of thinking she could not portray the character, Lucy Lawless's work as Ruby, on Ash vs. Evil Dead, herself has proven she is more than capable of lacing up those boots. In an interview with Shockya.com, she confirmed what we already know.
My fans, they wanna see me, they want to see me kick ass. They don’t want to see me being a nice little an archer wife. It’s a turn off for them. So when you wanna bring everything that I have you’ve gotta give some of the things that my fans want.
Whatever doubts Lucy Lawless may have, her fans don't share them. Yes, it's been fifteen years since she played Xena, but she is still an amazing actress who can conquer any role that comes her way.
