With the breakout role of Jon Bernthal's portrayal of Frank Castle (everyone's favorite one-man wrecking crew) in in Daredevil Season 2, Marvel and Netflix have given the green light to produce The Punisher series. It's possible we could see The Punisher series airing sometime in 2017 along with the other Marvel Netflix series Iron Fist and The Defenders.

MCUExchange is reporting that Marvel and Netflix are currently casting for the character of David Lieberman a.k.a. Microchip. It appears that they are underway in getting the series off the ground. The introduction of Microchip in The Punisher series makes sense. In the Marvel comics, Microchip is Frank Castle's right-hand man when it comes to computer hacking, building weapons, and supplying technology. Even at the end of Daredevil Season 2, there is a scene where Frank Castle is given a CD with the word "Micro" written on it. It's safe to assume that Microchip will appear.

If they truly are casting for the part of David "Microchip" Lieberman, here are my top my actors who can play the part. We have already seen Wayne Knight from Seinfeld portray Microchip in Punisher: War Zone starring Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle. I will not include Knight in this list. (Newman!) Also, I'm not going to use Dennis Franz because Lewis Larosa used him as the visual reference in several Punisher comics. Here we go with the list!

5. Donal Logue

Some people have mentioned Donal Logue as someone who can pull off Microchip. He has similar hair and a little bit of a pot belly. I could see him doing some lurking-in-the-shadows-type deals in Hell's Kitchen. Donal Logue already has the comic book pedigree starring in Blade, and in his current role as Harvey Bullock in the TV series Gotham. Of course, he will need time off from helping James Gordan clean up the streets in Gotham, but he could pull it off.

4. Nick Frost

Staring out as Simon Pegg's best friend (best mate if you are from the UK), Nick Frost is another front runner for the role of Microchip. You can see him alongside Simon Pegg in Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End. He is familiar with the whole sidekick role in movies. This character could be something different than the usual comedic roles he normally plays. He does have a striking resemblance to Liberman. I'm sure being close friends with Simon Pegg couldn't hurt his chances either.

3. Rainn Wilson

Dwight Schrute for Microchip!

I can totally see this one. Rainn Wilson's character of Dwight Schrute from The Office is really just a comedic version of Microchip. They both love computers and using weapons. They will use any means necessary to help out their friends. Even if Rainn Wilson put a more comedic spin on the character, it wouldn't be a bad idea. Add a little humor to the already tightly wound Frank Castle and can take the seriousness down a notch a times. Plus, a little fun brings out the humanity in an insane world. Rain Wilson also looks like they type of guy who could sit in an unmarked van filled with high-tech gear ready to aid Frank Castle at any moment.

2. Christian Slater

If you have not heard of the show Mr. Robot, then you are missing out. It's all about hackers trying to fix the world by taking down a huge corporation. I won't give out any spoilers, but Christian Slater plays the leader of the hacker collective fsociety. If we wanted to go younger, lead actor Rami Malek will be an excellent choice as well. However, Christian Slater looks like a modern-day Microchip and he's already used to portraying a hacker. The role in Mr. Robot is providing him a much-needed theatrical Renaissance. He could easily team up with The Punisher and take down some bad guys.

1. Paul Giamatti

My choice as Microchip in the possible The Punisher series? Hands down, Paul Giamatti. This guy can do it all. He's done everything from playing John Adams in the show John Adams to chugging a bucket of backwash in the movie Sideways. Besides, he needs to redeem himself from that awful portrayal of the robotic version of the Rhino with a horrible Russian accent in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He's had so many memorable acting roles that he could pull off David "Microchip" Lieberman in his sleep. We would be glued to the TV to see his depicting of this character.

Which of the actors would the best Microchip?

If you can think of another actor who would nerd it up as The Punisher's tech sidekick, add it to the comments below!
