Just when I thought I had Spider-Man Homecoming figured out, they hit me with another surprise. If you haven’t read or heard already Zendaya Coleman (19). will be playing a much hotter version of Mary Jane Watson in the upcoming three-boot of Spider-Man, this according to Comic Book Resources

I have a legit reason to be shocked since originally reports-back in March had the long time Disney star linked to Michelle, a college roommate of Peter Parker’s. I’m starting to think that maybe they pulled an okie-doke on all of us. Michele was supposed to be nothing more than a supporting character, well that couldn’t be further away from the truth. Now that I think about it all the clues were there especially when sites like CinemaBlend reported that her role was in fact a major role, call me Mr. Hindsight. Nevertheless here we are with Zendaya’s true role as Mary Jane Watson revealed.

Cinema History of Mary Jane

Mary Jane is the long time love interest of Peter Parker. She’s the Lois to his Clark his true love his destiny. In Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy Kirsten Dunst brought the sassy, mouthy Mary Jane to the big screen in great fashion. She and Toby McGuire displayed fantastic chemistry. One of the most memorable moments in comic book-cinema history came from Spider-Man…

Doesn't it just melt your heart away, or make you wanna vomit either way that would be the only time we got a chance too see Mary Jane depicted on the big screen. In the Amazing Spider-Man we saw a different love interest for Spidey, his high school sweetheart Gwen Stacy played brilliantly by Emma Stone. We were supposed to see Shaline Woodley portray the red head, but that died right along with Gwen when Disney/Marvel acquired the rights to the web-slinger.

That was then, this is now and we have a new face for Spidey to kiss. Here some facts you should know about the actress playing Mary Jane

Zendaya Danced Her Way Into Our Living Rooms

Back in Oakland, California when she was 8-years old Zendaya was part of a dance group called Future Shock Oakland.

In 2009 Zendaya's dancing talents were minimally featured in Selena Gomes’s Disney Channel Sears Commercial. Later on Zendaya would earn a spot on Disney’s dance show Shake it Up which also starred Bella Throne. She auditioned for the role of CeCe Jones performing Michael Jackson’s 'Leave Me Alone'

Speaking of Dancing, She Danced With The Stars!

Zendaya absolutely killed it on ABC’s (another Disney company) Dancing with the Stars when she teamed with Val and made it all the way to the finals.. She fell short finishing in second place during the final results show. She even got a perfect score once... Check out the routine.

Dancing is Only One of Her Many Talents

Zendaya has some pipes, I mean the girl can sang watch her kill 'Smile' acapella. Her 2013 debut self-titled album Zendaya broke through the Billboard Top 200 debuting at number 51.

Zendaya's Beauty is Captivating

Along with singing, acting, and dancing Zendaya is also a model. The 5'10 beauty has dipped her hand in fashion after garnering the attention of some people in the fashion industry. Last October she modeled hair history for Elle proving that she can make any hairstyle sexy. Elle wasn't the only company to take notice of her beauty. One of largest cosmetic companies in America asked that she be their spokesperson. Earlier this year CoverGirl introduced the beauty as their new face.

The woman is a busy person, but somehow she still has time to share her life with her fans.

Zendaya is a Social Media Darling

Zenday currently has over 30 million Instagram followers, She’s always updating her Instagram and posting videos on Vine and Snapchat.

Chemistry Will Not Be a Problem

Shake it Up cast-mates Zendaya and Bella Thorne developed a very close friendship despite things not starting gout that way. According to J-14’s Bella Thorne and Zendaya didn’t much like each other thanks to them being forced to compete- Bella Thorne had this to say...

“Zendaya and I were put in a very unfortunate position where we were kind of forced to compete against each other [during Shake It Up], which made the whole first season of the show just very awkward for us.”

The two would eventually work things out displaying fantastic chemistry and seemingly becoming close friends. However unlike her relationship with Bella Thorne, she and Tom Holland are hitting it off right away. They recently took on the Typo Dance Challenge.

These two should definitely show some great chemistry that may rival Kirsten Dunts and Toby McGuire’s... Okay maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement.

Disney Wanted to Keep Her Around

It’s obvious right? They signed her up for Spider-Man we all know that this will probably be a trilogy. But, it goes deeper than that. In Cosmopolitan Zendaya revealed that the only way she would stay on the Disney Channel was if they gave her more creative control. "The only way I was going to come back to the Disney Channel was if I was in a position of more power.” That was straight boss move right there. Of course Disney complied and fans got to see her in Casey Undercover. While we're on the subject of power...

Zendaya Was Almost an X-Men

When the casting news for X-Men Apocalypse came out Zendaya was one of two actresses being considered for the role of Storm. Ultimately Alexandra Shipp earned the spot. Ironically the role of Storm going to Alexandra Shipp wasn't the first time Zendaya lost a role to her constituent. In 2014 Zendaya had the role of Aaliayh in the bag, but she turned it down because she felt it was morally wrong. Alexandra Shipp to the place of Zendaya in the Lifetime's biopic Aaliyah: Princess of R&B. Technically she didn't lose the role, but it still is one heck of a coincidence.

She’s The Definition of Cultural Awareness

Zendaya is culturally in tune with her nationality being a bi-racial child and she embraces her African-American roots. Her fashion choices echos her pride sometimes. Zendaya has a keen sense of fashion and she rocks a number of different hairstyles. Well back in 2015 one of her choices became the talk of Hollywood. Zendaya opted to rock dreads on the red carpet of the 2015 Oscars. Well Giuliana Rancic made some racially charged remarks about Zendaya’s hairstyle saying she looks like she “smells like patchouli oil. Or, weed.”Zendaya didn’t take it laying down stating:

“There is already harsh criticism of African-American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair. My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of color that our hair is good enough."

Rancic did eventually apologize stating there was no ill intent it was all meant in good humor.

She Has Reasonably High Standards

Zendaya's awareness doesn't stop with just her culture. She understands the importance of embracing who you are as person, more specifically women. In October of 2015 Zendaya ordered Modeliste Magazine to remove photos of her after she was unpleasantly surprised to see how far they went to alter her body. After viewing these photos...

Zendaya had this to say via her Instagram account:

"Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated. These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it Thank you @modelistemagazine for pulling down the images and fixing this retouch issue."

She Holds Her Camp to the Same Standards

Zendaya recently made news after she said deuces to her publicist who made some racially insensitive comments during a make-up session for the cover of Cosmopolitan. I've said it once and I'll say it again, this woman is a boss. That same fiery strength she displays in real life will translate well onto the big screen.
