I am back from my summer hiatus. If every show known to man can take a few months off to enjoy the sunshine, I should be able to as well. Production on many of our favorite superhero shows are well under way and I wanted to kick off my return with a series of articles taking a look at the season ahead. So without further delay, here are 5 things we can expect to see in Season 2 of 'Legends of Tomorrow'.
1. Captain Cold will be back
Season 1 left a cold sting in our hearts when Leonard Snart sacrificed himself to give his teammates a fighting chance in determining their own fates. One of the highlights the season were the moments between Captain Cold and White Canary. Two people who were cut from the same cloth in terms of attitude and not being afraid to get messy if the job calls for it. I don't usually ship anyone in shows, but a big part of me enjoyed their flirtatious behavior. Another great highlight was bringing 'Prison Break' stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell back together as Captain Cold and Heatwave. The two together on screen is just magic. Some speculate if the reunion fueled the 'Prison Break' relaunch coming this fall. I personally had not see the show prior to 'Legends', but binged it on Netflix because of enjoying the dynamic that Cold and Heatwave brought to 'Legends'. Snart is too much of golden goose to leave dead. Expect some past version of himself to be involved in season 2.
2. Ray will not keep it in his pants
What is it with Ray Palmer? He loses the love of his life and fills the void by falling head over heels for every emotionally unavailable girl he meets. He pretty much stalks Felicity during 'Arrow' season 3, hires her at his company, bangs her, loses her to Oliver, and still gives her his company. Then he falls for a 5000 year old immortal who is destined to be with only one man and expects it to work out only to lose her to said soulmate. In my world, we call that a chump with a capital C. There were even a few sparks between Ray and Canary, but I think the writers left that road untraveled because Ray and Oliver were already Eskimo Brothers through Felicty and Felicty being Sara's Eskimo Sister through Oliver. Having Ray and Sara hook up would be just gross in thinking these ladies are just passed around between Ray and Ollie causing the Eskimo Family tree to be a really weird shaped bush. I digress. Brandon Roth is a handsome devil with a ton of on screen charm. Expect him to have yet another love interest in Season 2.
3. Laurel Lance will return as Black Canary
I want to start by saying, I hate what 'Arrow' writers did with Laurel's character. She was enjoyable to watch in season 1. Then season 2 hit and they just destroyed her by making her this unlikable pill popping drunk. Conspiracy theorists like myself speculate that they had to tear down the character to make room for Felicity and Oliver to be together and for the Sara Lance plots in season 2. Between us all knowing that Green Arrow and Black Canary get hitched in the comics and Laurel and Oliver were so charismatic together in season 1, there was no room for another lady to really stick without being just an Ollie fling (sorry Helena). Season 4 of 'Arrow' was the Laurel Lance redemption tour. She once again became everyone's favorite leading lady just in time to be murdered. This left fans, like myself, hoping it was really Felicity in the grave. 'Legends' is a time traveling show that can pluck any hero from any time and make it like they had never left. It is well past time to give the fans the chance to see the Lance sisters kicking ass together. 'Birds of Prey' anyone? Expect to see a version of Laurel Lance pop up in Season 2.
4. Flashpoint will not affect the show
I have theorized that any affects Flashpoint brings to the to Flarrowverse will be solely explored on 'The Flash'. Crazy as it may seem, some people may not watch 'The Flash' but watch the other CW shows. Having Flashpoint mess with things in the other shows would really cause some issues and confusion. I do not want see 4 shows on on network revolving around the plot of one show. While this is a connected universe, these characters still have their own things going on. Let the 'Legends' join up with the Justice Society of America as planned to stop the new threat that jeopardizes the timeline. Let the show have it's own identity without being thrown upside down just because Barry Allen has mommy issues. Expect the team to cameo and crossover in 'The Flash' for Flashpoint, but don't expect 'Legends of Tomorrow' to be drastically changed due to it.
5. Superman will be on the team
This is more of a bold prediction, rather than something we can definitively expect. Superman has been cast, and will appear on 'Supergirl'. How can we have Superman exist without overshadowing or taking over 'Supegirl'? You throw him on a time traveling team that will remove him from being actively available every time Kara Danvers finds herself out matched by a rogue alien. Fans will want to know who this new Superman is. Fleshing out his character is best served on a show that won't steal the focus from the main hero. 'Legends' is a team of heroes and did well in season 1 to split screen time effectively while still showing the growth and development of getting to know these people and their dual identities. Fingers are crossed that we get to see Rip's "Man of Steel" comment from last season play out. Plus, who doesn't want to see a pure gold reference about Brandon Roth who played Superman in 2005's 'Superman Returns'? There needs to be at least one "Have we met?" or "Hey Clark, can I try this on" from Ray right? There was a Superman reference in Season 1 of 'The Flash' when team Flash met ATOM for the first time during the episode 'All Star Team Up'.
There you have it. 5 things we can come to expect for 'Legends of Tomorrow' season 2. Agree? Disagree? Think I am nuts? Comment below.
