It has been announced this week that, with The Vampire Diaries soon coming to an end, The Lost Boys of Santa Carla will taking over the Salvatore residence on The CW. Hear fang fans across the world rejoice as The Lost Boys remake means an equal dose of all things vampire. Based on the 1987 cult classic of the same name, the story follows brothers Michael and Sam, who discover their new town is overrun by vampires. But who should take on the characters in such an immortal classic? Here's a rundown on the ones to watch.
1. Evan Peters As Michael
With all of the twisted and dark characters Evan Peters has made his own, Michael Emerson and his half-vampire transition would be a walk in the park. He has the aesthetic (near on identical!) and a knack for playing the most unpredictable antiheroes — he would be my one and only choice in casting.
2. Jeremy Sumpter As David
Can an *actual* Lost Boy from Neverland play a Santa Carla Lost Boy? Jeremy Sumpter, known for Billionaire Ransom, Friday Night Lights and for being The Peter Pan of a generation, has an impressive filmography to match his perfect vampire look. David's character is persuasive, slimy and downright scary — a role we haven't seen Jeremy undertake before. Do you think he would be up to it?
3. Luke Pasqualino As Dwayne
Luke Pasqualino could definitely pass as Dwayne; David's right-hand man. Intense and undeniably cool, Luke has shown us his skill set as the hero by playing D'Artagnan in BBC's The Musketeers. The real question is: Could he play a villain?
4. Lucas Hedges As Marko
Known previously for his work in Moonrise Kingdom, Lucas's career is set to skyrocket due to his breakthrough performance at The Sundance Film Festival, earlier this year, in which he played a high school senior in the face of adversity. It would be interesting to see him take on a darker role — Marko as a character was small, but not to be underestimated.
5. Zach Roerig As Paul
Can we keep the TVD legacy alive? Zach Roerig, who currently plays Sheriff/vampire hunter (and all-around hater) Matt Donovan was somewhat overlooked in the show. As the only human, his character was pretty much one-dimensional. I would love to see him go over to the dark side and take on a completely different role — he is a fantastic actor after all.
6. Miles Heizer As Sam
Although Sam was fairly young in the original film, Miles Heizer (known for Parenthood and ER) could be the one to fit the bill in terms of a courageous, yet cautious, younger brother. He looks more alike to the older brother, Michael — portrayed by Jason Patric in the original — so could definitely play the sibling. It will be interesting to see whether The CW cast younger actors, feeding from the successful '80s throwback Stranger Things, or stay faithful to the older casting shown in The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle. If you have not seen Miles's work, check him out in his new film Nerve!
7. Zoey Deutch As Star
Zoey Deutch had more than a few encounters with the undead while playing Rose Hathaway in Vampire Academy, already playing a half-vampire in the teen thriller. Star's character was remorseful and too moral to fully commit to vampirism — a role Zoey could fully qualify for.
Although it is very early days in terms of casting and creation, it is never to early to start guessing! It will be exciting to see how the writers ensure the new series will be as successful as TVD and the original film itself. Here is the statement released on the potential reboot and we may have in store:
It will tell a story spanning 70 years, each season chronicling a decade. Season 1 will be set in San Francisco during the Summer of Love, 1967. [Each season] only the vampires, our Lost Boys, who like the Peter Pan characters never grow up, remain the same.
