It was announced a few days ago that Marvel is teaming up with Hulu to develop a Runaways series. Runaways was a marvel comic created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona. Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage — who created and managed Gossip Girl — will be the showrunners on Runaways.

Josh Schwartz said in a press release:

“I’m a long-time fan of 'Runaways' and couldn’t be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian’s characters to life,”

The concept of Runaways is a group of teenagers who find out their parents are evil and must unite against a common foe: their parents.

The Runaways are all children of The Pride, a criminal group of mob bosses, time-travelers, dark wizards, mad scientists, alien invaders and telepathic mutants

But Who Are They?

Alex Wilder

Alex Wilder is the team's unofficial leader. Unlike the rest of the team, Alex does not possess powers of any kind because he is the child of mob bosses. However, he is a child prodigy in logic and strategy, both of which assist Alex greatly during his time as leader.

Alex is by far the most interesting character in the Runaways, as even without powers he is still a threat and arguably the most dangerous character.

Nico Minoru

Nico Minoru is the daughter of dark wizards. When Nico runs away with the rest of the teens she discovers that she inherited her parents' magical aptitude. Whenever Nico bleeds, a powerful staff emerges from her chest, allowing Nico to bend magic.

As far as characters go, there aren't many like Nico. She's a goth, Japanese-American girl and her relationships with the other Runaways is great — she takes on the mother role of the Runaways in later volumes of the series and has transitioned from the runaways to A-Force (the all-female Avengers)

Gertrude Yorkes

Gertrude Yorkes is the daughter of time-travelers. Gertrude "Gert" for short, is often regarded as the most book-smart of the Runaways, but also the most sarcastic. Gert has no physical powers, but does posses a mental link with Old Lace (a dinosaur).

Gert will most likely be the fan favorite character of the Hulu series, as she was a fan favorite of the comic books

Molly Hayes

Molly Hayes is a mutant with super strength and invulnerability. Molly was named the fourth toughest females in the Marvel Universe after Rogue, She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel. She is the youngest member of the team and she is extremely proud of her mutant heritage and admires the X-Men.

Molly is a difficult case as I'm not sure if Marvel owns her because she is a mutant. If they do, she will likely be an Inhuman instead. Or, they will replace the character with a similar Inhuman — a shame, as she is named after Brian K. Vaughan's younger sister, Molly Hayes Vaughan.

Chase Stein

Chase is the son of mad scientists and is often regarded as the "wild card" in the team. Chase possesses the Fistigons, the world's most powerful gauntlets and x-ray goggles. He is the eldest of the Runaways at age 18.

Chase's best story is his relationship with Gert and is something fans are dying to see in the Hulu series.

Karolina Dean

Like every member of the Runaways, she is the daughter of evil, super-powered criminals and while searching through her parents' home, she discovered that her parents were alien invaders called Majesdanians. The Majesdanians are a race that absorbs solar energy and transfers it in the form of the colors of the rainbow.

Karolina is the only alien on the team and also the only lesbian. She constantly struggles with her alien heritage, feeling that she is a freak among the group and also has insecurity about her homosexuality. Karolina is a character that is important to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) as a character like Karolina hasn't been done in Marvel's live action history.

The Runaways will join the ensemble superhero casts like DC's Suicide Squad, whose movie was chock-full of Easter Eggs. Check them out in the Movie Pilot original video below:
