Well, we all have got our favorite superheroes, right? From our fan favorite Wall Crawler to the Caped Crusader. With superheroes currently dominating the box office, we are in for one hell of a ride. Nonetheless, there are certain heroes that have been made fun of, and Aquaman is no exception. But thanks to the CW's The Flash, and of course the Justice League movie, lesser-known superheroes are finally becoming praise. But with Jason Mamoa playing our not-so recognizable superhero (Sorry, Jason) the tables seem to have turned for Aquaman. Here are a couple of things to consider before you start calling Aquaman lame.
5. He Fought With Namor
He did fight with Namor in the Marvel vs. DC crossover in the comics. Also, Aquaman is equal to his Marvel counterpart, as they are both Atlanteans. Did I mention Aquaman also threw a whale at Namor? Take that, Namor. While that happened, another interesting thing fun fact is that while Aquaman is faster, Namor is still tougher than Aquaman. Very interesting!
4. The Very First Comic He Appeared In Was Sold For $75,000
It was in November 1941, in More Fun Comics #73, that Aquaman made his first appearance, but his role in the comic was very small. Another familiar superhero who made his first appearance in the comic is Oliver Queen a.k.a. the Green Arrow, making it an important comic book.
The mint condition was sold for a tremendous $75,000 and the one in terrible condition costs $300, which is pretty good for a terrible condition if you ask me. This comic is considered the 86th valuable comic that exists, which is quite astounding.
3. He Can Control Marine Life With His Mind
While most people think that he can "speak to fish" that isn't exactly the case. Many people have argued that and it remains a common misconception. The skills he does have are pretty useful because in the New 52 (Reboot of the universe after Flashpoint) he controlled sharks with his mind to eat Parademons, which is pretty neat too. Now take that Aquaman haters. Speaking of the New 52...
2. He Peirced The Trident In Darkseid's Eyes
Yes, he stabbed Darkseid in his eyes. If you think Darkseid is powerful then you should think again. Darkseid is generally considered to be one of the powerful beings in the universe, hence defeating him proves that you're a pretty badass superhero yourself. While the Green Lantern and other Justice League members had trouble defeating him, Aquaman pierced the Trident in his freaking eyes! HIS EYES! This dude is a force to be reckoned with!
1. The King Of Atlantis
He's the King of Atlantis, which is the largest country in the world, spanning over five oceans and seven seas. It is the largest state in the (fictional) world, covering a surface area of approximately 361,900,000 kilometres squared. If Aquaman existed in the real world, then that would be awesome, and beneficial for him, as 7/10 of the Earth's surface consists of water.
There you have it. Aquaman definitely deserves more credit from fans. He has proven multiple times that he is a force to be reckoned with, and I am certain Jason Momoa's performance as Aquaman in the upcoming Justice League movie will change the manner in which people view the King of Atlantis.
