It's been almost 15 years since Naomi Watts first watched "the tape" in Gore Verbinski's remake of the Japanese horror film The Ring (followed by the 2005 sequel The Ring 2) but Samara's legacy and murderous tape clearly still live on in Paramount's upcoming installment, Rings.
The official trailer for the next chapter in the horror franchise has been released, and I have to say I'm glad I watched it in broad daylight. Rings is directed by F. Javier Gutierrez and stars Italian actress Matilda Lutz, Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory), Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights), Alex Roe (The 5th Wave) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Netflix's Daredevil).
Check out the first official trailer for Rings to get a taste of Samara's wrath.
There was definitely a lot to take in with that one trailer, so let's break things down a bit and see what Samara has in store for us this time around.
Samara Goes Viral
Thanks to social media, you can finally share the tape with all of your annoying Facebook friends in one fell swoop.
The better question is: Why does this Julia character still use a landline? A landline with a cord, for that matter. That's the real horror of this scenario.
A Hairy Situation
And this is where, as someone who gets horrible nightmares from scary movies and the notion of clogged drains, I would promptly exit the theater for a quick stroll around the lobby.

Don't Turn Around
I feel like if Samara quietly came and killed you after seven days it'd be one thing. But the week of torture and jump scares would be too much to bear!
I can't quite figure out whether this is a flashback or a new scene in the tape, but I'm eager to find out.
Based on that slight movement I have the sinking feeling that Julia's mom is not okay. Plus, it doesn't bode well for any of these characters that Samara is rising out of the ground in a pool of cockroaches.
Samara Takes To The Sky
Well, here it is! This is my nightmare come to the silver screen. If being killed by a vengeful spirit wasn't already a terrifying way to go, now you have to see it happen 30 thousand feet in the air.
Despite feeling so scared by the trailer alone, I'll definitely be watching Rings, if I'm not totally paralyzed by fear.
Rings will be released in theaters on October 28, will you answer Samara's call?
