Just when we thought it was impossible to get any more excited about the upcoming all-female Ocean’s spin-off, Ocean’s Eight, the universe has provided us with yet another gift. It's hot off the press that the double Emmy nominated star of American Horror Story and The People v O.J. Simpson and all round charmer, Sarah Paulson, is in talks to join the cast.

This would make her the eighth and final character to join an already phenomenal lineup including Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Cate Blanchett (Thor: Ragnarok), Rihanna (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets), Helena Bonham Carter (Fight Club), Mindy Kaling (The Office), Awkwafina (Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising) and Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises), all of whom feature on our dream dinner-guest list.

2016 is Paulson’s long overdue year of recognition, having flirted along the boundary between underground and mainstream visibility for as long as we can remember. Taking into account her stelar performances in TV drama's American Gothic and Deadwood and films Levitation, Serenity, Martha Marcy May Marlene and Carol, Ocean’s Eight would add yet another string to her already very accomplished bow.

Entertaining a part in the film which sees Gary Ross — the director of The Hunger Games and Seabiscuit — taking the directorial helm, Ocean’s Eleven director Steven Soderbergh on producing duties and a screenplay by Little Women script-writer Olivia Milch, Paulson would yet again be attaching herself to a project which looks set to be another sure-fire hit.

At this stage it looks most likely that Sarah will be replacing the role of Elizabeth Banks (Hunger Games) who was previously attached to the film, although nothing has been said concerning the story of the character in question. However, this is what we do know so far about the carefully guarded Ocean’s Eight plot:

  • Sandra Bullock will play the main protagonist as Danny Ocean’s (George Clooney's) ex-con sister.
  • Cate Blanchett will step up to play her right-hand woman, the equivalent of Rusty (Brad Pitt).
  • The film revolves around Bullock and her team of thieves attempting to steal an expensive necklace from a corrupt gallery owner during the Met Ball.
  • It’s going to be funny. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Helena Bonham Carter said:

“It’s a great script, and it’s great for women. Just hilarious.”

While we eagerly await the final confirmation of Paulson’s commitment to the movie, we can take comfort in the knowledge that she will feature in Ryan Murphy's (the creator and executive producer of American Horror Story’s) upcoming FX Series, Feud. Starring alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones, Susan Sarandon, Judy Davis, Dominic Burgess and her American Horror Story comrade Jessica Lange, Paulson’s pedigree has finally been acknowledged, finding herself repeatedly cast amongst Hollywood’s all time greats. Did I mention she can sing?

Taking on the role of eight-time Oscar nominee Geraldine Page in the series which focuses on the infamously bitter rift between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, we cannot wait to see Sarah take on yet another diverse character to already varied acting catalogue. However, all of our fingers remain tightly crossed that alongside Feud, we will also get to see her lighting up the big screen in the next installment of the Ocean's shenanigans.

Are You Looking Forward To Ocean’s Eight As Much As We Are?
