We love concept art, especially when The Rock says “where are my pecs” as he offers up an image in which he is suspiciously slimmed-down. Don’t take our word for it: check out the Jumanji reveal below, with a pec-less Rock decked out in Western kit.
One of the first things that caught my attention was how much like a Western outfit Dwayne Johnson’s safari costume looks. The first Jumanji took us to the jungle, and the sequel is taking us there once again, this time adding the beautiful landscape of Hawaii.
It's unlikely we’ll see The Smoldering Dr. Bravestone hop on a horse and gallop with guns and holsters through the Old West. But what if his character is taking influence from iconic adventurers like Indiana Jones, Western vaqueros like Clint Eastwood, or heck, even modern Hollywood icons like Matthew McConaughey. The Rock is one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors, so any role he undertakes is destined to shine.
Not convinced about the similarity to Clint Eastwood? Check out these side-by-side images:
- Film: A Fistful of Dollars
- Year: 1964
- The Basics: Clint Eastwood's first of three "Man With No Name" movies directed by Sergio Leone, and one of the movies that turned Italian-made "spaghetti westerns" into a global craze.
Watch this great edit of footage from the three "Man With No Name" films:
Or maybe the character is even more similar to Indiana Jones, as this comparison suggests:
- Film: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
- Year: 1984
- The Basics: The second film Steven Spielberg made featuring Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, this was actually the first chronological chapter in the Jones story.
This shot of Indy comes from the film's climactic bridge sequence. Revisit the moment:
What The Concept Art Tells Us About Jumanji's Sequel
While it doesn't reveal much, the concept art does assure us of one thing: Jumanji 2 will honor the original. This was assured by Johnson himself in the following Instagram post:
This new movie will NOT be a remake or reboot of the original. It will be a CONTINUATION of the awesome JUMANJI adventure 20 years later. As a producer on this movie and someone who loves the original, you have my word we'll honor the legend of "Alan Parrish" and properly introduce a whole new generation to the fun and crazy JUMANJI universe that so many of us loved and grew up on.
