Now that it's fall, some of your favorite autumnal traditions are returning — like pumpkin picking, corn mazes, creepy movies and, of course, American Horror Story! For five seasons, showrunner Ryan Murphy and co. have created captivating characters, scary settings and shuddersome stories. This year, however, the show is a little different.
For starters, the traditional start date has been pushed forward from mid-October to mid-September. The episode order has shrunk from its normal 13 episodes down to 10. And we still don't know the theme! The subtitle has yet to be released, and all the trailers we've seen for Season 6 are fake — except for one. All of that aside, here's a list to remind fans of why we're excited for this upcoming super-secret season of American Horror Story.
6. It All Leads To This!
Murphy confirmed recently to Vanity Fair that all of the previous seasons contain clues as to what Season 6 would be about. He also noted that Season 6 will be closely connected to Season 1. My guess as to what we will see? Tate's demon child!

5. Gaga Is Back!
Lady Gaga absolutely slayed it as the Countess in American Horror Story: Hotel. If you're anything like me, then you will be ecstatic to learn that she will be returning for a leading role in this coming season. My only demand is that the Countess remains as fierce as she ever was.
4. A New Time Period
Recently leaked on-set photos from TMZ revealed that American Horror Story will be taking this season back to the time of the Puritans in 16th-century early American colonial history.
Note the word carved into the trunk of the tree to the right of this photo? It reads "Croatoan." What is this? It may be a reference to Hatteras Island, formerly known as Croatoan Island, off the coast of North Carolina. It may also be a reference to the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island, a group of English settlers who vanished without a trace in the 1580s. Spooky!
3. They Have Awesome Directors!
Murphy has already tapped actress Angela Bassett and director Jennifer Chambers Lynch to steer the helm of a few episodes for the upcoming season. Back in July, Lynch revealed a cool behind-the-scenes photo from the shoot. And from the look of it, things got bloody messy.
2. It's A Surprise!
In the age of social media, when we know everything before a line of dialogue is even uttered in front of a camera, it really is refreshing for fans to be kept in the dark and have absolutely no clue as of what to expect. It is a concept that Murphy himself ensures.
1. Our Queen Is Returning!
The Supreme Sarah Paulson is confirmed to be making a comeback for the sixth season. She has absolutely killed it in past seasons, playing a two-headed freak in Freakshow, a steadfast witch leader in Coven, Lana Banana in Asylum, and even pulling double duty last year playing a heroin addict in Hotel and as Marcia Clarke in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. No matter what role Paulson tackles, she will surely rise to the occasion.
American Horror Story returns Wednesday, September 14 at 10 p.m. on FX.
