Back in 2012, In a galaxy not so far away (a.k.a George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch), the nucleus for a spin-off Han Solo film was born. Slowly but surely it has been picking up steam and now Lucasfilm has begun casting this epic prequel. Details of the production have been kept more secret than the plans for the Death Star but we do know the auditions have been the most rigorous castings to date. The producers have been on the hunt for the perfect actors for over 12 months now.
While we wait for the Han Solo spin-off trailer, check out the trailer for the upcoming Rogue One:
Alden Ehrenreich has already been cast in the lead role as a young Han and Donald Glover has been shortlisted to play a young Lando Calrissian. The spin-off will also feature a Chewbacca origin story but Lucasfilm has yet to hold auditions for Han's shaggy sidekick.
Another round of auditions were held in London this week to determine who would be chosen to play the mysterious female lead and the choices were narrowed down to Zoe Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road), Tessa Thompson (Creed) and Naomi Scott (Power Rangers). We're going to take a look at who the mysterious female character could be and a closer look at the actresses up for the part.

Who Is Sana Starros?
Judging by the final three candidates, it seems that the producers are on the lookout for an actress of color. Much to the chagrin of some internet trolls, this POC criteria gives us a major clue as to who the lucky chosen actress might play. Sana Starros is a black bounty hunter, first introduced in the Star Wars universe in Issue #4 of the current Marvel comic book series, whose storyline ties heavily into Han Solo's backstory.
Sana and Han married as part of a ruse in order to pull off an elaborate heist, but their relationship turned sour when the young smuggler ran away with her half of the cut. She tracked him down halfway across the galaxy and found him with Leia just as he joined the noble cause of the Rebellion. The badass smuggler travelled light years and killed whomever got in her way to find her husband to exact revenge — and maybe win back his heart?
These comic series events takes place between the films A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back so chances are the producers are taking elements from different timelines to change Star Wars history. Forest Whitaker's character in Rogue One was also pulled from the comic series, so obviously producers are already comfortable with a little rejigging of the Star Wars story. Sana Starros (she prefers to be called Sana Solo) is a fiery character and her blaster is heavy, so it will take a fierce actress to step into her big boots.
Three Actresses Enter, One Sana Leaves Victorious
The auditions for the Han Solo spin-off have been going on for a year now and these three actresses have fought off waves of hopeful contenders, so let's take a closer look at the remaining actresses fighting for the juicy role. Zoe Kravitz is the daughter of rock legend Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet but is already a multi-faceted talent in her own right as an actress/model/musician. Her acting credits include Mad Max: Fury Road, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Dope.
Naomi Scott is the youngest actress in the final group but has already proven herself in shows like Terra Nova and big films such as The Martian and The 33. The English thespian got her first break at the Disney Channel and has made a name for herself through kids' TV. She will slip on the iconic uniform of the Pink Ranger in the upcoming Power Rangers blockbuster next year.
Tessa Thompson has spent years stealing scenes on police procedural shows like Cold Case, Detroit 1-8-7 and Rizzoli & Iles. She has built a career on playing strong female characters like Sana who don't take shit from anyone in such films as Dear White People, Creed and Selma. She is currently busy filming the final chapter of the Thor Marvel trilogy, Thor: Ragnarok.
Sana Starros Awakens
The three actresses shortlisted for the role underwent two rounds of auditions, so it seems like a final decision is on the horizon. Production doesn't start until Spring 2017 so we should know within the coming weeks who will play Han's jilted bride. We can't wait to see Han Solo matched with a woman who's as equally fierce and unpredictable as he is. We already know from his relationship with Leia that loving Han is a complicated affair:
"Wonderful girl. Either I'm going to kill her or I'm beginning to like her."
Who would you like to see take the role of Sana Starros?
