Archery is no longer just a sport we get to admire every Olympic games, but also a skill possessed by various characters that kick ass on the the small and silver screen. Though the movies and television series they star in might not always hit the mark, these characters never miss their target. With only a bow and arrow in hand, these characters never fail to impress us with their remarkable archery and bow hunting skills. So, in honor of their love in archery, I decided to set my sight on the greatest arrow-slingers in TV and film.
10. Pevensie ('The Chronicles Of Narnia')
Susan Pevensie is the second-born of the Pevensie children from the fictional book #TheChroniclesOfNarnia by C.S. Lewis and was portrayed by Anna Popplewell in the movie adaptations.
After entering a wardrobe they discovered in their house, the Pevensie siblings come across the magical world of Narnia, where they were destined to be the kings and queens. Beyond her gentle personality and pretty face, Susan is a skilled archer and uses her expertise with a bow and arrow to join the talking lion named Aslan in defending their kingdom and keeping Narnia at peace.
9. Ygritte ('Game Of Thrones')
A fictional character in the A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels by American author George R.R. Martin, Ygritte is played by Rose Leslie in the #HBO fantasy series #GameOfThrones and is a major character in the third and fourth season of the series.
A woman of the Free Folk who lives north of the wall, this red-headed lover of Jon Snow displayed great skill in archery and developed expert survival skills. She valued her status as a free woman and was staunchly loyal to the cause of Mance Rayder. Although Ygritte was killed off at the end of Season 4, this wildling woman's amazing talent in handling the bow and arrow will always spring free in our minds.
8. Neytiri ('Avatar')
The movie is set in the mid-22nd century where humans are colonizing a planet named Pandora in order to mine the fictional mineral unobtanium, triggering the native humanoid species called the Na'vi with their operation's expansion. The Na'vi people are hunter-gatherers who rely on their archery skills to hunt for food and human defense. Aside from teaching the ways of the Na'vi to Jake Sully, Neytiri never failed to show us how great she is with her arrow-slinging skills, as she uses her bow to take down the film's cold-blooded villain.
7. John Rambo ('Rambo')
While he may be notoriously deadly with whatever weapon in his hand, #JohnRambo (played by #SylvesterStallone) has some expert bow hunting abilities and this list of the greatest archers in TV and in film wouldn't be complete without his name on it.
Slaying villains with long distance shots using his modified compound bow and explosive broadhead arrows to dispatch his enemies, John Rambo surely is someone who you'd want to have on your team.
6. Princess Merida ('Brave')
Our arrow-slinger princess breathed new life into Disney's culture of having its princesses be good role models for younger generations who want to get out there and control their own destinies. Brave hereby diverts from the "damsel in distress" cliché, whereby the main protagonist looks out for true love. Instead, Merida went on to develop her skills in sword fighting, spears, racing and possess an impeccable mastery in archery. Being the only animated character in our list, this wouldn't be complete without Pixar's flame-haired heroine.
5. Katniss Everdeen ('The Hunger Games')
If there's anyone to credit for inspiring younger generations, especially women and girls, to go out there and fight for what they stand for, it's Katniss Everdeen. A fictional character from the #TheHungerGames trilogy by Suzanne Collins and portrayed in the movie adaptations by #JenniferLawrence, this volunteered tribute from District 12 is surely a serious threat to anyone.
From the beginning of the The Hunger Games film, Katniss already showcased her skill in archery by hunting a deer. Her skills are further revealed in the Hunger Games sequels, where Katniss uses her bow and arrow to defend herself and survive. She was even named after an edible plant called Sagittaria, from Sagittarius the Archer, whose name means He that throws arrows in Latin. Talk about a natural bow and arrow wielder!
4. Hawkeye (Marvel Cinematic Universe)
Unlike his DC counterpart, Green Arrow, Hawkeye started out as a villain in Tales of Suspense #57 and later became an avenger in The Avengers #16. After being trained from childhood in circus, Hawkeye became an exceptional fencer, acrobat and marksman, but excels in the use of ranged weapons such as the bow and arrow. He may be outmatched by more powerful members of the #TheAvengers but this famous archer from #Marvel comics proves that he will survive despite running out of arrows in the midst of battling aliens and robots.
3. Green Arrow ('Arrow')
Being introduced in 1941, #OliverQueen's mastery in archery is a natural talent enhanced by years of experience. A billionaire businessman who owns Queen Industries and a well-known personality in his locale, Star City, #GreenArrow uses his skills to fight crimes alongside his fellow superheroes as a member of the #JusticeLeague.
He is capable of shooting any part of the human body, but decides to only shoot the wounded parts and only kills in the direst of situations. Despite having great competence in archery, Green Arrow is a poor combatant compared to Marvel's Hawkeye, but highly innovative in customizing his arsenal:

2. Legolas (The Lord Of The Rings Franchise)
In the middle of moss, fungus and orcs, this Sindarin Elf from Woodland Realm is not only a woman's favorite from Peter Jackson's #TheLordOfTheRings trilogy for being princely enchanting, but also for being very handy with his bow and arrow.
Portrayed by Orlando Bloom in the movie adaptations, the appealing Legolas is responsible for some of the trilogy's memorable scenes. Even if he didn't slay that overgrown pachyderm in the third installment, the light-hearted Greenleaf ("Legolas" translated into English) will never hesitate to use his arrow-slinging skills to battle for the greater good.
1. Robin Hood ('Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves')
A classic archer whom many venturesome archers tried to emulate, you really can't compile a list of the greatest archers without his name on it. When thinking of the best archers in television and film history, it's no question that the name #RobinHood will always come to mind. Having been portrayed by various actors and appeared in a considerable amount of films throughout the years, he is without a doubt the most skilled in this field.
It doesn't matter if you think of Russell Crowe's 2010 #RobinHood movie, Errol Flynn's 1938 #TheAdventuresOfRobinHood or even Daffy Duck's daring move to be the skilled archer in the 1958 film Robin Hood Daffy. As for me, Kevin Costner's portrayal of the nobleman crusader in the 1991 film #RobinHoodPrinceOfThieves will always be one of the finest Robin Hood moments. Whatever the case, Robin Hood is the legend that started out the romanticized views on archery and bowhunting, as he used his skills to fight tyranny and give it back to the oppressed.
It's no surprise that having an arrow-slinging guy in every group of heroes is a trend nowadays. I think it is safe to say that we have these memorable and badass heroes to thank for it. Some of them may not be as strong and favored as other characters, but all of them have great archery skills that will always come in handy. Which archer in our list hits your mark? Or did I miss one? Feel free to comment it down below.
