The Dark Knight has knocked out the Justice League.
Justice League 2, the sequel to the upcoming DC superhero ensemble movie, has been delayed to make room for Ben Affleck’s standalone Batman film, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The sequel was originally slated for a June 14, 2019 release date, but the film’s delay means it’s likely Justice League 2 won’t hit theaters until 2020 or later. Affleck’s Batman movie may be swooping into that now-vacant spot on the Warner Bros. movie schedule, but no official release date has yet been announced.
Once he wraps with Justice League, which is still in production, Zack Snyder will reportedly take a break from the DC Universe and focus his attention on The Last Photograph. The thriller has been in development for several years since Snyder initially set up the project after the success of 300 in the mid-2000s.
The smaller-scale movie will tell the story of a war correspondent in Afghanistan who is the sole survivor of an attack on a group of Americans and teams up with a special ops soldier in hopes of scoring the story of his life.
This is not the first big shakeup for the DCEU at Warner Bros. The Flash feature film has also been having trouble taking off. Director Rick Famuyiwa abandoned the developing-movie in November citing creative difference with the studio. Unfortunately, this happened only a few short months after the previous director attached to the project, Seth Grahame-Smith, waked away in June.

However, the Justice League sequel delay may be a good thing for the DCEU in the long run. The revised schedule opens the door for other DC films in the franchise to expand and enrich the universe before the world’s greatest superheroes team up once again.
Justice League lands in theaters November 17, 2017.
