Some say a house is where you hang your hat. But in some cases, it's a place to keep the spirits away.
Helen Mirren (Fate Of The Furious, Monsters University) stars in the upcoming thriller Winchester, which follows Mirren as Sara Winchester, the real-life Winchester firearm heiress and recluse. For years she added more and more rooms to her mansion of over 160 rooms, because she was afraid she was being haunted by the victims of the Winchester Repeating Rifle.
As we approach the release of the film, here is your chance to see some of the bizarre rooms and architectural designs that have never been seen before by the public. The photos have been photographed by photographers Karen Jerzyk and Tony Detroit:
The Winchester Mystery House
The movie is based on the The Winchester Mystery House located in San Jose, California, which has fascinated visitors from all over the world. The home was originally purchased as a two-story farmhouse. Due to Sara Winchester's fear that ghosts haunted the halls, she expanded the farmhouse into an enormous mansion with hundreds of rooms to appease the ghosts of those who died under fire from the Winchester Rifle.
With its ornate rooms and dark passages, the mansion has become one of the most peculiar homes in the world. The numerous oddities found there stir the imagination towards thoughts of the macabre. There's a room with a window in the floor, stairs leading to ceilings, and doors that open to nowhere.
If you are interested in the paranormal and haunted houses, the Winchester Mystery House should be on your list of famous haunts to visit.
Winchester opens on February 23, 2018.
