Over the last few years, the internet has been obsessed with the physical resemblance between Captain America: Civil War star Sebastian Stan and Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill. Fans created tons of images comparing the two actors (usually using younger photos of Hamill) and there is no denying that the two could be each other’s doppelgangers.
In May of 2016, a picture of Sebastian Stan's face superimposed over an image of Mark Hamill from Star Wars: A New Hope went viral, which spawned the phrase: "Sebastian Stan... I am your father". Although Hamill made a passing joke about the image, it seemed to just be a fun joke among fans.

On September 24th, Mark Hamill posted an image of himself a younger version of himself and Sebastian Stan side-by-side, along with the perfect caption:
Mark Hamill’s social media prowess has always been on point, but this recent Instagram post has launched him into the stratosphere. Not only did this post finally acknowledge that even Hamill himself believes the two look alike, but it also played into the popular phrase fans had coined over a year ago. In one fell swoop, Mark Hamill brought joy to his fans and also made them feel like their voices (even when they are jokes) are being heard.
Mark Hamill's Instagram Post Sets Social Media On Fire
Mark Hamill’s Instagram post was bombarded by thousands of overjoyed fans, who couldn’t believe what just happened. The image quickly made its way to Twitter, where people shared their immense excitement and disbelief:
Some Twitter users seem to have taken Hamill's joke about Stan being his son literally, which led to some confusion. It's possible that they were simply making sarcastic goof of some sort, but sadly, sarcasm doesn't transfer well over text:
When Lucasfilm announced the Han Solo standalone film, many fans became convinced that if they ever need a younger Luke Skywalker in an upcoming film, Sebastian Stan would be an obvious choice. The side-by-side photo that Hamill posted of himself and Stan supports this notion, because the resemblance is uncanny. We still have no idea if Disney/Lucasfilm will ever need an actor to play a younger Luke Skywalker, but if they do, they certainly know where to find him.
#StarWars fans must wait a few months to finally see Mark Hamill reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but in the meantime, Hamill continues to entertain on social media. His Instagram post was a perfect example of why Mark Hamill has been a beloved member of the nerd community for decades and only makes him more of a legend.
